1. Controller
The controller for the processing of personal data on this website within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Dr. Gökhan Coskun
Kolonnenstraße 8
10827 Berlin · Germany
Email: info@semantification.org
2. General information on data processing
We process personal data only to the extent necessary to provide a functioning website and our content. As a rule, the processing is based on our legitimate interest in a secure and appropriate web offering (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not pass data on to third parties for advertising purposes.
3. Hosting and server log files
This website is hosted on a server we operate ourselves. When the site is accessed, the server automatically collects information that your browser transmits and that is technically required in order to display the website to you and to ensure its stability and security:
- the page or file requested and the time of access
- the volume of data transferred and a message confirming successful retrieval
- browser type and version, operating system, referrer URL
- IP address (shortened or promptly anonymised by our server configuration)
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. This data is not combined with other data sources and is deleted after a short time.
4. SSL/TLS encryption
For security reasons, this website uses SSL/TLS encryption throughout (you can recognise it by the „https://“ in the address bar). This means that the data you transmit to us cannot be read by third parties.
5. Web analytics with Matomo (self-hosted)
We use the open-source software Matomo for the statistical analysis of visits. Matomo runs on our own server (analytics.semantification.org) — no data is transferred to third parties or to third countries.
We have configured Matomo to be sparing with data:
- Without cookies: No cookies are set, so no consent is required.
- IP anonymisation: Your IP address is shortened before any processing (the last two bytes are removed); we cannot attribute it to you.
- Do Not Track: If your browser sends a „Do Not Track“ signal, you are not recorded.
What we record includes anonymised access statistics such as the pages visited, the approximate region of origin, the browser or device type used, and the time spent. The analysis serves solely to improve our offering. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in designing the website to meet demand (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Objection (opt-out)
You can object to the anonymised recording at any time. On Matomo's opt-out page, an opt-out record is stored in your browser for this purpose.
The opt-out page is located on analytics.semantification.org, that is, not on this website. This website itself sets no cookies. Cookies only arise if you call up the opt-out page. There are two of them:
- MATOMO_SESSID — session cookie. Purpose: it maintains the session in which the opt-out form is submitted and protects that form against submissions from elsewhere. Duration: session — the cookie carries no expiry date and is deleted as soon as you close your browser. Set by analytics.semantification.org as soon as the opt-out page is called up. Legal basis: Section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG, because the cookie is strictly necessary in order to provide the service you have called up; no consent is required for it. For the associated processing, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
- matomo_ignore — opt-out cookie. Purpose: it records your objection so that Matomo does not record your visits. Duration: 30 years. Set by analytics.semantification.org, and only once you have actually objected on the opt-out page. Legal basis: Section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG, because the cookie is strictly necessary in order to carry out the objection you have expressly requested; for the associated processing, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR in conjunction with Art. 21 GDPR.
- No further access to your device. Both cookies are stored for analytics.semantification.org and contain no information about you personally.
If you delete your browser's cookies, your objection is deleted with them and you have to declare it again. The same applies if you use a different browser or a different device.
6. Contact form and getting in touch
If you write to us via the contact form or by email, we process the details you provide (name, email address, and where applicable organisation and website) as well as your message, in order to deal with your enquiry and for any follow-up questions.
Your message is entered as a case in our internal case-management system and stored there verbatim. Access is limited to the roles that work on the case.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where the matter concerns steps prior to entering into a contract, and otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — our legitimate interest in answering enquiries properly. Your name, email address and message are required in order to deal with the enquiry; all other details are voluntary.
We delete this data as soon as it is no longer required for the purpose, and provided that no statutory retention periods prevent deletion.
7. Use of AI systems in our work
We handle enquiries and assignments with the support of AI systems. In doing so, content from your message and from the case may be transmitted to our provider and processed there.
Provider: Anthropic PBC, San Francisco, USA. We have a data processing agreement with the provider pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR. The transfer to the USA takes place on the basis of the EU standard contractual clauses pursuant to Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR.
The legal basis for this use is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. There is no automated decision-making within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR: decisions that take effect externally — approvals, quotes, contracts — are made by a natural person.
How we work with AI, and where a human decides, is set out in detail under How AI works here.
8. Your rights
You have the following rights with regard to the personal data concerning you:
- right of access (Art. 15 GDPR)
- right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
- right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
- right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
- right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
- right to object to the processing (Art. 21 GDPR)
An informal message to info@semantification.org is enough to exercise them. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The competent authority is the Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit (Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information).
9. Currency of this policy
This privacy policy is currently valid. As our website develops further, or because of changes in statutory requirements, it may become necessary to amend it.
